PAnORaMA Academic
This version offers all the above features of PAnORaMA Design but for a limited size of network. The limitations are in terms of network size (length of pipe, number of nodes etc.) and is targeted for engineering education sector, namely colleges with chemical, mechanical and civil engineering departments.
PAnORaMA Academic Software has been developed to plug this lacunae, from inputs and data gathered through observations of the teaching components; interviews with the tutor and student focus groups.
The students are given an application oriented approach and then work individually or in self-selected groups on ‘live’ industrial problems in a simulated environment.
Senior Academia from IIT have formulated the industrial needs and supply information, so that student learn of additional task-focused through comprehensive software skills. The main group activity consists of taking on board the industrial problem, turning it into an academic simulation model and working out the technical details required to produce an initial solution.
PAnORaMA Academic is being offered with an intention to fortify problem solving in courses in fluid mechanics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Pedagogy in disciplines of chemical, mechanical and civil engineering will gain from this tool.
Network flow is often not covered in adequate depth in these courses mainly because of involved nature of calculations.
PAnORaMA Academic will help deal with this lacunae and help attend to inadequate coverage of this industrially vital topic. Being a dynamic simulator, it should also help cover start-up and shut-down issues of industrial networks.
The simulator will help solve realistically complex problems and develop a deeper insight into operational part of liquid or gas distribution networks.
Advantages of PAnORaMA Academic:
An enhanced version of PAnORaMA is also available for industrial use which allows operator training, commerce related calculations and report generation such as shrinkage and line pack calculations for gas networks, real time leak detection etc. The core network simulator is the same in the academic version and the commercial version. Acquaintance with PAnORaMA Academic during engineering education, thus helps easy integration with demands made during professional careers.
Students are very positive about ‘learning by doing’ being very effective. “It is not a ‘learn and forget’ type of module.” They gain confidence and feel proficient in real industrial scenarios. A grounding and experience in Simulation based computational fluid mechanics(CFM) is considered to be a valuable addition to a CV.
The industrial training and projects are seen as being close to real life as possible and, therefore, a realistic preparation for an industrial career using computational fluid mechanics(CFM). The format of the simulation projects also allows both the students and the companies to obtain valuable insights into how the other would tackle the same problem.
Industry-focused projects and software enhances students’ motivation to learn and receives consistently high student satisfaction levels in module feedback ratings. As a result, the course is also expected to be received very enthusiastically by the industrial partners, in recognizing student performance levels generally ranging from good to outstanding and help during campus recruitment process as well.
